Senior Risk & Best Practice Lawyer – Bristol – 3+ Years PQE
Location: Bristol (Hybrid working)
Type of Role: Permanent, Full-time
Salary: £60,000 to £75,000
A leading commercial law firm is seeking a Senior Risk & Best Practice Lawyer to join its growing Risk & Best Practice team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced risk professional to take on a senior advisory role, supporting partners, fee earners and business services teams across all areas of regulatory compliance, professional standards and risk management.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for delivering high level risk and compliance advice while supervising and developing members of the Risk & Best Practice team. Your work will include:
- Supervising and line managing risk lawyers and risk professionals
- Providing senior level advice on SRA Standards & Regulations, conflicts of interest and ethical issues
- Advising on GDPR/Data Protection, DSARs, data breaches and AML matters
- Providing wider regulatory advice including Market Abuse, Bribery Act, ECCTA and related legislation
- Reviewing and advising on client terms, outside counsel guidelines and supplier contracts
- Advising on engagement letters and terms of business
- Managing PI claims and complaints, including reporting to insurers and coordinating investigations
- Drafting, updating and communicating policies and procedures
- Designing and improving risk processes and supporting internal audit programmes
- Delivering internal training and commissioning external training
- Leading annual renewals including PI insurance, practising certificate renewal and regulatory registrations
- Supporting ISO audits and Cyber Essentials Plus recertification
- Acting as an ambassador for the firm in dealings with external stakeholders
Candidate Requirements
This role is suited to a risk professional with:
- A current practising certificate (Solicitor or Barrister preferred)
- 3+ years’ PQE with strong experience in law firm risk management
- Excellent knowledge of PoCA, Bribery Act, GDPR/Data Protection Act, ML Regulations and SRA Standards & Regulations
- Ability to advise on contractual issues including limitation of liability and UCTA
- Familiarity with negligence principles and PI claims reporting
- Strong understanding of ethical principles, client care, conflicts, confidentiality and disclosure
- Awareness of Solicitors Accounts Rules
- Experience with ISO standards or internal quality audits (advantageous)
- Calm, professional and commercially aware approach
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Proven line management experience
- Strong team working skills and diplomatic leadership style
