Overview

The purpose of the Regulatory Officer role is to make informed decisions on individual cases by interpreting evidence and applying policy, helping to reduce a departmental backlog while communicating outcomes confidently and sensitively.

My client is the independent regulator for barristers and specialised legal services businesses in England and Wales, working in the public interest to uphold high standards, promote diversity, and ensure access to justice. Responsible for regulating over 18,000 professionals, they set qualification and practice standards, monitors service quality, and handle complaints to maintain trust in the profession.

Description

The Regulatory Officer post requires the ability to interpret information, assess risk and

to ensure that policy is implemented in accordance with guidelines. You will need to be

confident and comfortable when making decisions and advising people of outcomes,

both positive and negative. The department is carrying a significant backlog and

requires additional resource to assist in clearing this.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

– Assimilating information and evidence from individual cases, arriving at a decision

based on guidance and criteria.

o Law graduates who have carried out tasks in the completion of their studies

will also be considered.

– Communicating outcomes of decisions to stakeholders, both positive and negative

in a confident yet sensitive manner.

Key skills required include:

– Proficiency in the full suite of Microsoft Office applications, plus case management

or customer relationship software.

– Background in case management with another regulatory, membership body or

another organisation where caseloads were managed.

Profile

A successful Regulatory Officer should have:

  • A strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements.
  • Experience working within the legal or regulatory field, ideally in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication abilities, both written and verbal.
  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • A relevant qualification in law, compliance, or a related field.
