We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Financial Controller to lead the Accounting & Finance department in the utilities industry, based near Woodstock.

Description

  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organisational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives.
  • Prepare the company’s budget and financial forecasts and report variances.
  • Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports appropriate for users and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Ensure that all statutory requirements of the organisation are met including Charitable Status, Withholding Payments (CPP, EI), Income Tax, Goods and Services Tax.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that personnel and financial information is secure.
  • Oversee the bookkeeping function including maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.
  • Collaborate with auditing services to ensure proper compliance with all regulations.
  • Develop financial business plans and forecasts.

Profile

A successful Financial Controller should have:

  • Proven working experience as a Financial Controller in the essential services industry, this includes water, electricity, natural gas and waste management.
  • Sage experience.
  • Advanced degree in Accounting.
  • CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Excellent accounting software user administration skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence and executive presence – ability to motivate staff.
  • Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organisation skills.
